You can end your fear of driving over bridges

Believe it or not, yes you can end your fear of driving over bridges - not tomorrow, not next week but now!

The fear of driving over bridges is valid and you are not alone. So far, there are 19 million people in America who have some form of phobia.

Gephyrophobia is a form of anxiety disorder which is caused by one's fear of driving over bridges or by crossing it. Usually, those who suffer from gephyrophobia eventually avoid any routes which will cause them to drive over bridges.

But do note that the fear of driving over bridges is actually part of a whole system of phobias and generally does not work in isolation. With gephyrophobia - according to Anxiety Disorders Clinic founder at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Dr. Liebowitz - one feels light-headed and has a general fear of being trapped. The heart also races and an eventual panic attack occurs.

Phobias, as stated by the president of the Anxiety Disorder Association of America Jerilyn Ross, is marked by the intense feeling of panic that ultimately, it is not the bridge which people who have gephyrophobia is afraid of but it is the fear of panicking on a bridge.
